Elektrik
Hallo zusammen

Nur muß man z.b. beim überbrücken sehr aufpassen wo man was an klemmt.
Gruß
Bernd

Re: Elektrik
Lots of "OLD" pre 1960's british vehicle were "Positive" earth. i.e. the "+" connection of the battery was connected to the chassis.
This is NOT correct for a Haflinger. Maybe it has been converted at some point in its life, but unless you know how and why it was done - It is always going to give you problems.
The Dynastart would have to have been re-wound and so all the connections to it will be different from any wiring diagram you have for it from Steyr Puch Haflinger manuals.
You can find a wiring diagram here: http://www.goatwerks.com/haflingertechstuff.html
Better still buy your own printed copy of the repair manual and part book if you are going to keep the Haflinger!

Re: Elektrik
Hallo
Kann was kaputt gehen ? Was meint ihr ?
Gruß Michael

Re: Elektrik
I would suggest it would be better to get your Dynastart checked by a proper "auto electrician" to make sure it is a "-" earth version - this will make your life much easier as you can then follow the correct Haflinger wiring diagrams without having to WORK OUT what is different between your Haflinger's wiring and the diagrams.
If you want to try and check the Dynastart yourself, you can do the following - BUT BE WARNED!!! It could result in your Dynastart catching FIRE!!!!!!
You will have to check which way the Dynastart turns when you try to start it. Disconnect the two belts from the pulley wheel on the Dyanastart. Disconnect all the wires from the Dyanastart apart from the Braided wire which joins the Dyanastart to the Haflinger bodywork and the big wire which comes from the Starting solenoid to the "+" terminal on the Dyanastart.
Connect the battery with the "+" pole to the chassis and the "-" poLe to the cable going to the solenoid. Ask some to help by trying to start the Engine. Observe which way the Dynastart tries to turn!
"""" DO THIS WITH VERY VERY QUICK TRIES!!!!! """"" YOU DO NOT WANT TO **BURN OUT** THE WINDINGS IN THE DYNASTART!!!!****
If the Dynastart tries to turn the pulley end in a clockwise direction then your Haflinger dynastart has been changed to be "+" earth!
If the Dynastart tries to turn the pulley end is an anti-clockwise direction then you Dynastart is the way it should be! "-" earth!! In this case, disconnect the battery wires and change them so the "+" terminal goes to the solenoid and the "-" terminal goes to the bodywork.

Re: Elektrik
The Haflinger has a Dynastart - This starts the engine as a DC electric motor and then when the engine is running, it becomes a DC generator. It is not the same as a modern ALTERNATOR which produces AC current which must then be turned into DC (rectified, using diodes).
All Haflingers would have left the factory as NEGATIVE earth vehicles (- terminal of teh battery to the chassis).
It is possible that it has been converted, but I don't see why that would have been done.

Re: Elektrik

LG Flo

Re: Elektrik
I am sorry. When I read what I have written after it has been posted, even I get confused by what it says! The Google translate does not work very well.
Take the vehicle to an Auto Electrician with the wiring diagram and get them to check it.
The Haflinger does not have any Diode bridge like a modern car electrical system. It is supposed to be NEGATIVE EARTH.
The engine and lights will all work if it is wired "+" earth, BUT it will not charge the battery unless the Dynastart has been altered.
IF you stand behind the Haflinger and look at the dynastart, the pulley wheel should rotate in a CLOCKWISE direction when the engine is running.
I hope the translation works better with shorter sentences.
Regards,
John

Re: Elektrik

Re: Elektrik
Very good!
That is the way it is supposed to be.
Why was it connected the other way? Was this something the person before you did? Was this something a "mechanic" did?

Re: Elektrik
